New England School of Acupuncture--President
The New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) is the oldest school for acupuncture and Oriental medicine is the US. Located in one of the country’s premiere centers for medical education and treatment, NESA has developed collaborative relationships with some of the area’s top medical institutions. Whether it is the new NESA/Tufts Medical School Masters in Pain Management program or research being conducted in collaboration with Harvard Medical School and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, NESA is at the forefront of acupuncture and Oriental medicine education in the US. Having recently moved to its new facility, NESA will combine the school and its clinic at one location. It is at this critical point in our history that the Board of Trustees seeks a leader to bring NESA to the next phase in its development.
President
Working closely with faculty, staff and the Board of Trustees, the President will play a leadership role in developing NESA’s strategic plan, guiding the school’s future growth and direction while overseeing all day-to-day operations.
The President will lead the expansion of academic programs that may include development of a new doctoral program. The President will cultivate NESA’s existing relationships within the medical community while expanding the role and visibility of acupuncture and Oriental medicine in the country.
The President will also be responsible for exploring all appropriate strategies to bolster NESA’s financial strength through such initiatives as business activities, grant writing, new research activities, and philanthropy.
Qualifications: A Masters degree is required with a demonstrated interest in the field of Oriental medicine. Ability to function in a leadership capacity is essential, bringing together multiple disciplines and groups inside and outside NESA to further enhance the school’s academic, operational and financial success. Previous administrative and management experience is required. An ability to develop effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, business leaders, the Board and other key groups is critical.

N.Y. Chiropractic College—Dean of School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
General Description:
Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and overall management of the Graduate Programs in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) curriculum and the faculty and staff associated with NYCC’s AOM programs in direct and supporting roles. The position is a full time appointment requiring service to the College divided among administrative duties, scholarship, service and teaching in a manner to be determined by agreement between the Dean of the School of AOM and the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Function:
- Provide leadership and academic guidance to the NYCC Graduate Programs in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
- Ensure that department activities are supportive of the NYCC and Graduate Programs Mission /Purpose Statements.
- Ensure the integrity and quality of delivery of the Master of Science in Acupuncture/ Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSA/MSAOM) curriculum.
- Encourage scholarship and research among MSA/MSAOM program faculty and staff, and modeling and mentoring of such activities.
- Develop and promote a departmental setting that is conductive to its employees’ welfare and continued professional growth.
- Develop and promote a departmental setting that is conductive to students’ welfare, education, and continued professional growth.
- Coordinate and integrate activities pertaining to internal and external departmental activities and promotions.
- Maintain current knowledge base and changes in the acupuncture and Oriental medicine field.
- Promote and model of behavior that recognizes the stewardship that the faculty and staff should feel toward the college grounds, buildings, and overall organization.
Organizational Relationships:
- Responsible to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Responsible for integration of the department’s activities with the NYCC Academic Affairs Division, and its various departments.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of: MSA/MSAOM Programs full and part time faculty; Graduate Associates, teaching Fellows.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Educational Role:
- Provide adequate education within the scope of the MSA/MSAOM curriculums
- Provide consultation to other phases of the program as it relates to the MSA/MSAOM Programs.
B. Administrative Role:
- Provide input to and receive direction from the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Facilitate departmental meetings with faculty and staff on a regular and timely basis.
- Develop and review departmental goals, objectives, action steps and professional development plans, ensuring proper growth of the department consistent with the NYCC and departmental mission statements.
- Provide reports to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and others as necessary and as requested.
- Provide yearly evaluation of departmental employees to ensure departmental quality and continued employee advancements.
- Manage the departmental budgets including financial projections for equipment, facilities, and staffing.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the department and its equipment. Ensure proper inventory of all MSA/MSAOM Program supplies and equipment.
- Participate in activities sponsored through the department.
- Develop interprofessional relationships for the department with relevant local, state, and national organizations.
- Provide active involvement and leadership roles for the AOM profession at national and state organizations.
- Design and implement proper management of faculty and staff to maximize manpower while maintaining departmental goals.
- Provide a positive work and educational environment for the departmental Faculty and Staff.
C. Scholarship:
- Maintain a program of scholarly activity commenserate with faculty rank and within the limitations imposed by the role of Dean of the School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
- The program of scholarship will be in keeping with the mission statement of the College, and in keeping with the purpose statement of the MSA/MSAOM Programs of the College.
- Scholarship will take the form of either advancing the discipline of field of the dean, or of scholarship of pedagogy and the teaching profession in general.
- Outcomes of scholarship will be measured by acceptance/presentation of works at appropriate local, regional, national and international conferences, and by publication in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor the scholarship of other department faculty as per Dean of Basic Sciences.
D. Service:
- Participate in College service by service on internal committees appropriate to the role of Dean of the School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
- Participate in service to the field of expertise by participation in appropriate regional, national and
- international organizations.
- Volunteer professional services to the local community in roles appropriate to the mission of the College
- and the discipline of the Dean.
E. Policy:
- Oversees the development of new and/or revised academic policies and procedures. Make recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and President regarding changes in academic policies, and maintains an up-to-date Graduate Programs in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Policies and Procedures manual.
- Oversees development of MSA/MSAOM Program standards as to curriculum, textbooks, and terminology.
- Participate in ongoing development of Educational and Patient Care Protocols and quality assurance programs.
- Build and maintain bridges to Basic Sciences and Health Centers with emphasis on Campus Health Center.
F. Curriculum:
- Approves course outlines and syllabi upon recommendation of the faculty and Curriculum Committee.
- Provides counsel and support to the Curriculum Committee.
G. Employment of Faculty and Staff
- Approves the recruitment of, and makes recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs for the hiring of full and part-time faculty, clerical staff, and technicians for the division. Make recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs regarding the reappointment of full-time faculty. Approve the appointment of part-time faculty. Provide the necessary authorizations for initial and continuing employee compensation. Maintain and secure faculty and staff departmental personnel records in accordance with College policies.
H. Faculty Evaluation, Advancement and Development
- Makes recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs regarding promotions in collaboration with Committee on Faculty Appointments and Promotions (CFAP).
I. Budgets
- Oversees the preparation of budgets for the MSA/MSAOM Programs, and monitor MSA/MSAOM program revenues and expenses throughout the academic year.
J. Reports, Committees and Meetings
- Prepares reports for the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and/or President for presentation at Board of Trustees meetings, or as required.
- Represents the College in national organizations as requested by the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Serves as chairperson of the AOM Advisory Board.
K. Planning
- Develop, collaboratively with faculty and staff, goals, objectives and action steps of the MSA/MSAOM Programs.
- Contribute to the ongoing processes of institutional self-evaluation, strategic planning and accreditation, prepare reports required to support institutional accreditation activities.
L. Scheduling
- Approve the trimester schedule of classes for faculty and students in collaboration with other academic administrators and the Registrar to ensure both quality and cost effectiveness in instruction activities.
- Approve the final examination/proctor schedule each trimester.
Methods of Accountability:
- Written and oral reports to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Submission annual Self-Report and Overarching Development Plan to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Review of quality improvement outcome measures as reported by Institutional Quality and Assessment.
- Performance evaluation by the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Faculty, staff and student satisfaction with their experience in the MSA/MSAOM Programs.

JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Professor of Clinical Acupuncture position is a full time teaching position focusing on the teaching of essential courses in acupuncture and related studies.
MAJOR DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
The Assistant Professor of Acupuncture’s responsibilities include:
- Supervision of student interns during 2-3 shifts in the UB Acupuncture Institute’s teaching clinic or outreach clinics weekly, including summer clinic rotations
- Teach a total of 10 didactic credits over the course of each school year (Spring, Fall and Summer semesters); 14 didactic credits if supervising only 2 shifts per week
- Serve as Chair of either the First or Second Year Seminar, starting in August 2008
- Advise the Director of the Acupuncture Institute of best practices in acupuncture
- Serve as Chair of two Acupuncture Institute faculty committees
- Serve as a member of the University of Bridgeport’s Faculty Council
- Increase community awareness of the offerings at the Acupuncture Institute
Other:
Performs related duties as necessary to support the University of Bridgeport and Acupuncture Institute mission and educational objectives.
