Background
New England School of Acupuncture (NESA), a non profit graduate school located in the Boston suburbs is seeking a new Academic Dean.
This individual will play a key role in leveraging the institution's stable foundation and reputation for educational excellence, research and community service to optimize its potential within a rapidly growing area of health care. The role will evolve with the organization's needs.
NESA offers 3-year graduate degree programs in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, as well as a joint program in pain management with Tufts University School of Medicine. Clinical experience requirements are met through internships at multiple clinics located throughout the Boston metropolitan area.
Scope of Position
Responsible for planning, development, and leadership of academic department, including program planning, academic policy development, curriculum review and program assessment. Provides administrative and academic leadership, and leverages the high academic integrity of the programs. Serves as key advisor to President and Board of Trustees in academic affairs and strategic planning.

Responsibilities
Leadership:
- Key member of Executive Steering Committee and Board of Trustees' Academic and Research Committee; chair of Interdepartmental Committee
- Strategic planning, focusing on continual improvement of organizational design, effectiveness, budget and operations
- Anticipates and responds to trends in AOM education and practice
- Drive future program priorities, including Integrative Medicine and Practice Management
- Lead didactic and clinical curriculum development, integration and delivery in coordination with Department Chairs and faculty
- Ensure successful accomplishment of broad and specific academic program outcomes
Academic Administrative Management:
- Work with Department Chairs and Staff to manage all aspects of course offerings, including curriculum coordination; define and assess course content and expected outcomes
- Perform ongoing assessment of programs relative to curriculum outcome goals
- Ensure that cross-departmental projects and initiatives interfacing with the academic department are well integrated and achievable
- Ensure program compliance with Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and the California Acupuncture Board (CAB)
- Establish and measure performance goals for all direct reports
Faculty Management
- With Department Chairs, recruit, select and mentor faculty; perform ongoing assessment of teaching effectiveness through faculty evaluation; mentor faculty in teaching strategies as needed; oversee faculty development plan
- Oversee Disciplinary and Grievance proceedings for faculty
Student Management
- Work closely with Director of Student Affairs, Admissions Department and Staff regarding all aspects of student satisfaction

- Directly advise students in Tufts Pain Management Program

The Director of Student Services provides support for students in all College programs by monitoring and assisting in each student's academic progress. The Director of Student Services works with the Dean/Administrative Director of each program to manage student progress and disciplinary issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists Students with Special Needs
- Requests and keeps student documentation of any declared physical or learning disabilities
- Informs instructor each trimester of students with special needs who are enrolled in his/her class, requesting reasonable accommodations be made including special seating arrangements, longer test-taking times, etc.
- Monitors Student Academic Progress
- Monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and GPA for each student
- Places any student options and advisement to improve his or her performance in class
- Offers struggling student options and advisement to improve his or her performance in class
- Monitors excessive absences of students and contacts student regarding attendance problems
- Approves leave-of-absences or withdrawal from the College
- Forms Grievance Committee at the request of a student in order to review and render decisions on contested grades.
- Coordinates Per Tutoring Program
- Recruits student tutors to offer tutoring to students upon request
- Coordinates the scheduling and payment of peer tutors
- Assists Deans and Administrative Director in Student Disciplinary Issues
- Provides support to the Deans in severe cases of student misconduct, forming a Judiciary Committee, if necessary.
- Places students on Disciplinary Probation at the direction of the Dean or Administrative Director, and dismisses students from the College at the direction of a Judiciary Committee.
- Forms Grievance Committee at the request of a student in order to review and render decisions on any disciplinary action
- Oversee admissions, registration and scheduling.
- Ensure satisfactory academic progress in the areas of attendance, grades, matriculation, and graduation.
- Ensure student satisfaction and retention.
- Oversee faculty recruitment, orientation, course assignments, and management including professional development, evaluation, curriculum implementation and control.
- Ensure regulatory compliance in the areas of file maintenance, submissions (AIR, Self-Study, Program Approvals) and accreditation readiness and visits.
- Ensure compliance with academic policy and procedure.
- Collaborate on program and policy development.
- Manage equipment, facilities and course materials.
- Supervise Education/Academic staff.
- Manage local articulation and partnership agreements.
- Collaborate on planning, budget and overall visibility of management team.

Oregon College of Oriental Medicine - Systems Librarian (Part-Time)
The Oregon College of Oriental Medicine seeks a motivated, creative, talented, and dependable, Part Time Systems Librarian.
This one-year, grant funded position is responsible for the successful migration of OCOM bibliographic data and implementation of the new integrated library system on the Portland health library consortium catalog. This position is also responsible for ensuring quality cataloging and material processing to optimize findability and access. This position may also assist with special projects at the request of the College Librarian.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Oversee and perform extensive quality control on all bibliographic data
- Oversee data conversion from text-based records to OCLC MARC format
- Troubleshoot library systems
- Maintain statistics and evaluate effectiveness of ILS system and other relevant categories
- Develop and maintain training materials on the new catalog, including in person training, webinars, and other methods to be determined
- Meet regularly with implementation team to discuss the project and ensure that it is on schedule
- Catalog and process new materials
- Hire, train, and manage the work of library work-study students
Qualifications:
Education
- An ALA accredited Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited college or university is required.
Experience
- Previous experience as a systems administrator is highly desirable; and experience with Millenium III System and WorldCat Local preferred
- Previous experience cataloging and processing materials is required
- Previous experience and/or training in an academic or medical library is highly desirable
Salary and Hours:
This is a grant-funded 0.5 FTE position that pays $20/hour and is eligible for benefits. Anticipated start date is February 1, 2010, 12-month duration.

- Student Records: Maintain, update and review student records and files (hard copy files, as well as electronically on spreadsheet and database).

Yo San University College of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Director Doctoral Program
Yo San University, a private accredited not-for-profit school of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will launch its Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) Program in the spring of 2010. We seek a Doctoral Program Director who will facilitate the implementation, growth and development of the program. The director oversees all academic staff and works closely with the President to achieve the objectives of the program. The Director is responsible for curriculum, instruction, on and off site clinical training and the day-to-day operations of the DAOM Program. The director will have responsibility for the recruitment, supervision, assessment and ongoing development of faculty, compliance with all accreditation standards and guidelines, monitoring all equipment and academic and clinical facilities regarding the program. The Director is responsible for marketing the program, as well as for the recruitment and evaluation of prospective students in collaboration with other administrators. The Director also has responsibility for the generation and maintenance of all publications that pertain to the program, and assessment of all aspects of the program. We seek candidates with an earned DAOM degree and an active California license, as well as substantive experience in teaching and administration in higher education.
