Graduate Profile of Diana Hermann, M.Ac.O.M., L.Ac.

  1. Date of graduation: September 1999
  2. Full-time or part-time practice: Full-time
  3. Current practice setting: Solo practice with one additional acupuncturist as employee
  4. Areas of practice specialization:
    • Type of patients: All age and lifestyle demographics, mostly from northern Colorado and southern Wyoming, but also including a few surrounding states.
    • Type of therapy used: Mostly Chinese herbal medicine now, still some acupuncture. Additionally, I handcraft external herbal medicines for the treatment and management of dermatological conditions. We have a patient clinic, a brick & mortar shoppe (yes, we spell it that pretentious way), and an online shop.
    • Principal conditions treated:
    • Dermatology (the bulk of my practice is treating skin diseases) - internal and external herbs.
    • Inflammatory Bowel Disease - internal herbs
    • Respiratory & Infectious Illness - internal herbs, acupuncture, cupping
    • Cosmetic Wellness - acupuncture, external herbs, gua sha
  5. Postgraduate Education: Diploma in Chinese Medicine Dermatology (by Avicenna Centre for Chinese Medicine, UK)
  6. Most rewarding aspect of practice: Helping people feel free again. My job is to get people to the point where they do not have to think about their skin, where the bathroom is, and if they will be able to breathe all the time....they can just live their lives.
  7. Most essential tips for other graduates desiring to establish a successful practice:Spend the bulk of your time on the things that light you up...the things that you are specially trained to do....the things that you can do better (or differently) than other practitioners...the things that make you want to get out of bed (most) mornings. Delegate the rest as soon as you possibly can. Especially a trustworthy bookkeeper. GET A BOOKKEEPER. And never apologize for who you are.

Diana Hermann is a 1999 graduate of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, a CCAOM member institution. For a list of all CCAOM member colleges, see state list.
