Graduate Profile of Andy Lee, RN, CA, LAc, Dipl.Ac. NCCAOM

  1. Date of graduation: June 2013
  2. Full-time or part-time practice: Full-time
  3. Current practice setting: Nationwide Children's Hospital and a private family practice
  4. Areas of practice specialization:
    • Type of patients: At the hospital, the pediatric patients range in age from school age to early 20s. In my private practice, I treat patients from birth to 90s.
    • Type of therapy used: I use traditional acupuncture, acupressure, electro-acupuncture, tuina, KHT, auriculotherapy, NRT, and essential oils. I do take insurance, workers compensation, Veterans Choice Program, and this October Medicaid in Ohio!
    • Principal conditions treated: I treat a wide variety of health issues at the hospital and in my private practice.
  5. Postgraduate Education: After graduation, I became certified in aromatherapy and then assisted in starting an aromatherapy program at the hospital. I am also planning on further education--doctoral studies in acupuncture to begin later this year. I was also a member of a task force for hospital-based practice with NCCAOM. I have presented at two national conferences and given many local talks, for both community and other health care professionals. I have also written community newspaper articles, participated in a panel discussion of health care providers, and written an article for our hospital based magazine. I have a goal to assist our hospital in getting an inpatient acupuncture/CAM program started.
  6. Most rewarding aspect of practice: It is impossible for me to select just one rewarding aspect of practice; however, I do love to see the look on the faces of patients when they experience how good acupuncture feels.
  7. Most essential tips for other graduates desiring to establish a successful practice: Remember to take care of your own Qi. Your patients will look to you to set a benchmark of TCM. Stay open to opportunities, whether it is a talk or an article, and spend time reviewing current literature and studies being done on acupuncture.
